Responsibilities
- Develop quick prototypes of complete features across React/Next.js user interfaces, Node.js APIs, and supporting storage and search systems.
- Work with product managers and designers in time-limited discovery phases, iterating rapidly, demonstrating frequently, and testing hypotheses.
- Ensure prototypes adhere to shared components and standards, including feature flags, authentication flows, audit trails, multi-tenant considerations, and basic monitoring.
- Incorporate workflows that involve streaming or orchestration tools like Kafka or Temporal, and collaborate with data and machine learning engineers as required.
- Deliver a complete adoption package containing documentation, interfaces, schemas, and an integration backlog to minimize handoff issues.
Requirements
- At least three years of experience building production web applications and APIs using TypeScript, specifically with React or Next.js and Node.js.
- Strong product engineering mindset, able to transform vague requirements into a focused prototype scope lasting one to three weeks.
- Practical skills in API design and data layers, including PostgreSQL, and comfort integrating search functionality when necessary.
- Experience working in Kubernetes or GitOps environments, and maintaining good engineering practices such as testing, continuous integration, and documentation.
- Security awareness, treating access control, privacy and personally identifiable information handling, and audit requirements as essential parts of completion.
- Eligibility to work in Germany, with preference for EU or NATO citizenship due to export-controlled projects.
Nice to Have
- Experience with real-time user interfaces using WebSockets or WebRTC, collaborative editing, or conflict-free replicated data types or operational transformation.
- Experience with complex visualizations such as graph or geospatial user interfaces, using tools like Cytoscape, D3, Mapbox, or Cesium.
- Some familiarity with Python for quick data or machine learning integration.
- German language skills at B1 level or higher, and/or experience with regulated or mission-critical systems.
