About the Role
You will design and own the core data infrastructure from the ground up, ensuring data consistency, reliability, and scalability across product, finance, and executive reporting systems.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement end-to-end data pipelines connecting product events, payments, and internal systems to BigQuery
- Design and manage the data warehouse structure, including schema, modeling, and table organization
- Define and maintain the authoritative source for key business and product metrics
- Develop and manage foundational data models for users, subscriptions, revenue, and engagement
- Ensure alignment and consistency of data across product analytics, billing, and internal tools
- Lead efforts to reconcile data discrepancies between external systems like Stripe and internal reporting
- Implement automated data quality checks, validation rules, and monitoring frameworks
- Create and maintain stable reporting layers used by leadership and finance teams
- Establish company-wide data standards, including event naming, schema governance, and tracking practices
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve data quality at the source through better instrumentation
- Enable downstream analytics and data science teams with clean, documented, and accessible datasets
- Continuously optimize data systems for reliability, performance, and cost efficiency
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years in data engineering or analytics engineering roles
- Demonstrated experience building data platforms or data warehouses from scratch
- Proficient in SQL and Python with a focus on writing production-grade data code
- Extensive knowledge of data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and warehouse architecture
- Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift
- Experience using dbt or comparable data transformation tools
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration platforms like Airflow or Prefect
- Background working with financial and product data including payments, subscriptions, and usage metrics
- Strong grasp of data reliability, testing methodologies, and validation techniques
- Ability to convert business requirements into scalable and consistent data models
- High level of ownership with the ability to independently define and drive technical architecture
- Comfortable navigating ambiguous, fast-paced environments with evolving priorities
Nice to Have
- Experience developing data systems for financial or revenue reporting
- Background in reconciling data across multiple systems
- Familiarity with BI platforms such as Metabase or Looker
- Experience defining semantic layers or standardizing metric definitions
- Prior experience as an early or founding data team member

About the Role
- We’re looking for a Founding Data Engineer to build and own OpenArt’s core data platform and source of truth, supporting product, finance, and leadership decision-making.
- This is a 0 → 1 role focused on data reliability, modeling, and long-term scalability — not just analytics or dashboarding.
- You will define how data is structured, validated, and served across the company — ensuring that key metrics are consistent, trusted, and production-grade.
- You’ll work closely with the Head of Data, engineering, and leadership to establish a robust data foundation that scales with the company.
