Air Methods is hiring a Flight Paramedic

Responsibilities

  • Deliver pre-hospital advanced life support from initial contact until transfer to the receiving medical facility, and maintain thorough patient care documentation.
  • Operate within the scope of practice defined by state regulations and company standards, maintain competency through ongoing lab and clinical experiences, and communicate educational needs to supervisors.
  • Keep records of required licenses, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures; attend at least six educational programs per year.
  • Be proficient in the use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies; report equipment failures and take initial steps for repair; maintain adequate onboard supplies and keep the aircraft clean and orderly.
  • Participate in patient and referring institution follow-up, as well as planned outreach marketing and education activities.
  • Attend pre-mission briefings and debriefings, complete necessary documentation, assist with pre-mission liftoff checklists, and support the pilot with radio, navigational, and visual observation tasks; comply with safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed.
  • Serve as a flight resource for neonatal and pediatric personnel during specialty patient transports; perform advanced skills and procedures as approved by medical directors.
  • Act as a role model, educator, and clinical resource; participate regularly in departmental activities, projects, and committees, including research and publishing; stay informed on current pre-hospital care issues through professional activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with at least three years of related experience and training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years of recent experience in a busy 911 system.
  • Registered EMT-P licensed in the state(s) served.
  • National certification may be required to meet state licensure requirements.
  • Specialty certification (FP-C or CCP-C) required within two years of hire.
  • Current certifications in Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent (AHA courses if required by state or county), and advanced provider ITLS or PHTLS (if required by state or country).
  • One advanced trauma course acceptable: TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course prior to completing third-rider orientation; advanced skills lab must accompany the course.
  • NRP certification prior to completing third-rider orientation.
  • NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat upon hire.
  • Maintain weight not exceeding 225 pounds including empty flight suit and boots.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including overtime and 24/7 on-call rotation.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field preferred.
  • Previous critical care transport and flight experience a plus.
