Role OverviewWe are looking for an experienced Flight Controls & GNC Engineer to support the development and optimization of fixed wing unmanned aircraft systems. This remote position plays a central role in advancing flight control automation, working closely with engineering and operational teams to refine guidance, navigation, and control systems through iterative design, simulation, and real-world testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead efforts in flight control automation across multiple fixed wing platforms
- Translate complex technical requirements into actionable development tasks
- Support the execution of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing, ground checks, and flight evaluations
- Analyze performance data to inform risk assessments, safety protocols, and system improvements
- Integrate findings into product support workflows, procedural updates, and future development cycles
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams during experimental phases and gate reviews
- Contribute to planning and executing test campaigns for internal and customer-driven initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Controls, or a related field
- At least two years of hands-on experience in flight controls and GNC for fixed wing UAS
- U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance
- Proven ability to work within technical teams, manage project risks, and deliver functional solutions on schedule
- Direct experience in software development for flight control systems and GNC algorithms
- Familiarity with HIL/SIL simulation environments and troubleshooting integrated hardware-software systems
- Experience using version control, defect tracking, and peer review workflows
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify automation gaps and contribute to collaborative solutions
- Self-driven with the capacity to own tasks and deliver results independently
Preferred Qualifications
- More than five years of relevant engineering experience in unmanned systems
- Experience thriving in environments with highly technical peers and innovation-focused professionals
Technical Environment
Guidance, navigation, and control (GNC), flight control automation, fixed wing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) simulation, version control systems, defect tracking, peer review processes, risk assessment, data analysis, test automation.
Work Arrangement
This is a remote position with up to 50% travel required, depending on the candidate’s home location. The role supports field testing, integration activities, and customer engagements across various operational sites.
