Annexon Biosciences was looking for a Field Medical Director (MSL) – Ophthalmology (Central Plains Region)

Field Medical Director (MSL) – Ophthalmology is a field-based medical expert position within Medical Affairs, focused on advancing scientific dialogue and supporting clinical development across the Central Plains Region. This role serves as a trusted liaison between medical professionals and research institutions, fostering two-way scientific exchange grounded in patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with Thought Leaders, clinicians, and researchers through compliant, science-driven conversations on disease mechanisms, treatment approaches, and emerging data
  • Support clinical research initiatives by identifying opportunities for investigator-led studies, health economics research, and publication planning aligned with therapeutic priorities
  • Represent medical expertise at conferences and scientific meetings to gather insights, share data, and explore collaborative pathways
  • Deliver scientific education to formulary committees, payers, and healthcare decision-makers in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational strategy
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to support trial site identification, investigator engagement, and patient recruitment efforts
  • Partner with patient advocacy groups to ensure the patient perspective informs medical communications and research design
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of neurology, immunology, and ophthalmology landscapes, including clinical trial developments and treatment trends
  • Document interactions, insights, and engagement activities accurately and in compliance with company policies

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a scientific, medical, or healthcare degree such as PharmD, PhD, MD, or DO. A minimum of 4–6 years of field medical experience in biopharmaceuticals is required, with 6 or more years preferred. Proven success in building scientific networks, communicating complex data, and operating within regulated environments is essential.

Preferred experience includes work in medical affairs or clinical R&D, particularly in neurology, neuromuscular disorders, or immunology. Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to work independently while aligning with broader medical strategy are critical.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid, field-based role with primary coverage across the Central Plains Region. Travel is required based on business needs, including occasional national or international trips. The position offers flexible scheduling and remote work capabilities, with periodic onsite visits to the company’s headquarters.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $190,000 to $224,000, with additional compensation through equity participation and an employee stock purchase plan.
