Illumina is hiring a Field Applications Scientist to be a trusted technical partner for our customers across Italy. In this role, you will enable customer success by providing expert scientific consultation, troubleshooting, and training throughout the customer journey. You'll build strong partnerships during pre- and post-sales engagements to ensure optimal performance with Illumina technologies.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate new installations, including facility inspections, instrument validation, and customer training.
- Review and approve the operational quality of equipment, and instruct customers in system operations and maintenance.
- Troubleshoot issues related to technical skills, biochemistry/assay design, experimental design, software, and instruments.
- Interpret customer needs and determine the appropriate internal team for problem resolution.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers in your assigned territory.
- Help maintain and increase product usage, and support key sales efforts through technical presentations and demonstrations.
- Provide strategic and competitive feedback to Marketing and product development teams, and independently lead or manage beta tests.
- Develop and improve key company processes to support a world-class customer support organization.
- Manage the process of elevating application issues, instrument problems, customer issues, and kit issues.
What We're Looking For
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Genetics, or a related field, with some related experience.
- Willingness to travel up to 70% in Italy (and occasionally across Europe for training).
- Fluent language skills in both Italian and English.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, interpersonal, and account management skills in a commercial environment.
- Ability to work independently on highly complex problems requiring analysis of multiple variables.
- Use of independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, or evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication and training skills.
- A clear vision of and commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
- A valid driving license is essential.
Nice to Have
- An MSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Genetics is an advantage.
- Some biotech experience.
- Experience using Genotyping and Sequencing technologies.
- Experience in clinical NGS applications.
- Experience in bioinformatics data analysis in the genome sciences.
