Responsibilities
- Support career development of team members by designing challenging projects and increasing their responsibilities and exposure.
- Guide engineers in system architecture, design decisions, and long-term planning beyond immediate tasks.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, set goals, and manage performance evaluation cycles.
- Explain the reasoning behind strategic decisions, even difficult ones, to empower independent and aligned team choices.
- Build a psychologically safe environment by demonstrating openness, admitting errors, and encouraging questions.
- Tailor management approach to individual team members and actively seek feedback on leadership effectiveness.
- Oversee the technical platform supporting the storefront, including deployment pipelines, developer tools, AI-enhanced development workflows, and associated microservices and data infrastructure.
- Advocate for system observability, reliability, and performance through monitoring practices, alerting, on-call protocols, and performance standards.
- Drive adoption of AI tools and modern engineering practices to enhance developer productivity and experience.
- Work with engineering leadership to shape the technical roadmap, balancing new features, technical debt reduction, and platform improvements.
- Engage directly in development when needed to unblock progress, including debugging storefront issues, building tools, or setting up microservices.
- Manage agile workflows including daily standups, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and retrospectives, and write clear, well-defined tickets with specific acceptance conditions.
- Anticipate and address risks across development phases and iterative cycles.
- Promote engineering best practices such as test-driven development, thorough code reviews, and high code quality standards.
- Encourage comprehensive and precise documentation across all code repositories.
- Collaborate with Product and Design teams on feature requirements, technical feasibility, trade-offs, and roadmap planning.
- Coordinate with Marketing, eCommerce, and Data teams on implementing experiments, storefront functionality, and analytics (including tracking pixels, Google Tag Manager, and marketing technology operations on both client and server sides).
- Ensure all storefront development complies with accessibility standards like WCAG 2.1 and privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.
