Responsibilities
- Guide the growth of a team composed of experienced software engineers, with future responsibility for managing other engineering leads; focus on strong hiring, leadership development, and organizational design as the team expands.
- Define and execute team strategy; enable senior individual contributors to lead technical vision and system architecture while maintaining sufficient technical involvement to assess decisions, resolve tradeoffs, and intervene when necessary.
- Develop and prioritize the Backend Platforms roadmap, allocating resources across new feature development, improvements in developer efficiency, and reduction of platform-level technical debt.
- Lead efforts to modernize and scale the core backend systems built in Python and Elixir, including the primary application backend, asynchronous processing, messaging pipelines, and underlying data storage layers.
- Oversee the platforms that support real-time product functionality, particularly the Live Service and Auction Service, which are critical to the core user experience of live video and bidding.
- Deliver quantifiable gains in system reliability, speed, and usability for developers working across the owned technology stack.
- Collaborate with reliability, infrastructure, and product engineering groups to influence cross-organizational standards and architectural direction.
- Foster a culture rooted in engineering rigor: emphasize clean code, explicit ownership, systematic retirement of outdated systems, and responsibility for live production behavior.
