About the Role
In the first few months, gain deep familiarity with the POS checkout and payment systems, team operations, and cross-team boundaries. Build trust with engineers in Poland, a US-based Staff Engineer, and product partners while improving execution and operational discipline. Over time, enhance checkout performance and usability under real-world restaurant conditions. Success will be measured by team cohesion, system quality, and measurable business outcomes in speed, reliability, accuracy, and support efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate collaboration across dispersed time zones by promoting asynchronous workflows and cohesive team dynamics.
- Lead engineering delivery for all checkout functionalities, including various payment methods, transaction modifications, and data handling.
- Work closely with Product and Design to deliver intuitive checkout solutions tailored to restaurant staff and customers.
- Coordinate with Financial Services to refine and integrate internal Payments SDK for optimal performance and reliability.
- Shape technical direction for Android applications and backend systems, advancing toward event-driven design using Kafka.
- Improve key metrics such as transaction speed, success rates, stability, accuracy, and support burden.
- Establish rigorous engineering standards around testing, monitoring, incident preparedness, and full lifecycle ownership.
- Participate in incident leadership rotations and provide direct support during payment-related outages.
- Proactively manage project risks, deliverables, and stakeholder communication to enable informed decision-making.
- Support engineer growth through consistent feedback, mentorship, career planning, and strategic task ownership.

How You’ll Make an Impact
In your initial months, you will build a strong understanding of SpotOn’s Express POS checkout and payment flows, the team’s operating model, and the boundaries between POS and Financial Services. You will establish trust with your engineers in Poland, your US-based Staff Engineer, and your Product and Design partners while helping the team sharpen its execution and operational focus. Over time, you will help make checkout faster, more reliable, and easier to use for restaurants operating in real-world conditions: busy service windows, complex orders, multiple payment types, staff handoffs, device constraints, network variability, and high guest expectations. Your success will be measured by the strength and cohesion of your distributed team, the quality and reliability of the checkout experience, and the business impact of improvements to checkout speed, success rate, payment accuracy, crash-free sessions, support case frequency, and incident response.
