About the Role

Join Orca Bio’s Engineering team to support Mayo Clinic’s mission of driving innovation and new product development. In this entry-level role, you will build solutions with opportunities to gain experience in Edge AI/ML, wireless communication, and embedded systems.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and optimize Edge AI systems for real-time performance and scalability.
  • Integrate AI models into embedded systems and ensure compatibility with hardware platforms.
  • Work with serial communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN to enable seamless hardware-software interaction.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Perform system-level debugging and optimization to enhance performance and reliability.
  • Assist in the design and development of biomedical-related engineering systems.
  • Summarize and communicate results of work efforts to project team members and management clearly and timely.
  • Manage multiple priorities and assigned tasks.
  • Participate in safety risk management activities.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or Rust.
  • Hands-on experience with serial communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN).
  • Knowledge of AI frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or ONNX.
  • Experience running ML models on low-power devices such as MCUs, FPGAs, SoCs, or NPUs.
  • Familiarity with lightweight ML frameworks such as LiteRT, ExecuTorch, or TensorRT.
  • Experience using model compression techniques like pruning, quantization, clustering, or knowledge distillation to improve latency and reduce energy consumption.
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and microcontroller-based systems.
  • Experience with hardware-software co-design and performance optimization.
  • Exposure to cybersecurity standards for embedded devices.
  • Knowledge of system-level design tools and techniques such as FMEA or system modeling.
  • Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Previous leadership or mentorship experience in a technical team.
