HARMAN is looking for a Senior Embedded Linux SW Engineer to join our PQRS (Production & Qualification Readiness SW) team. You will be responsible for contributing to the creation of a lightweight Linux distribution used for low-level hardware validation and certification in automotive projects. Your role will involve finding innovative solutions that integrate hardware and software to meet internal customer requirements within a global, multi-disciplinary team.
What You'll Do
- Evaluate and estimate requirements from internal customers.
- Develop, maintain, and improve a custom Linux distribution and associated services for hardware validation, manufacturing, and certification.
- Contribute to defining and implementing architectural concepts to maximize software component reusability.
- Implement user-space device 'drivers' for networking devices, video serializers/deserializers, positioning devices, audio interfaces, amplifiers, and controllers.
- Analyze tickets, investigate, and resolve technical issues related to PQRS work-packages.
- Provide support for debugging and troubleshooting during development, qualification, manufacturing, and certification phases.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for PQRS deliverables.
- Conduct code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
- Communicate project status, challenges, and solutions to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with managers to meet timelines and milestones.
- Work closely with PQRS consumers to ensure deliverables meet requirements and standards.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices related to automotive infotainment.
- Foster a culture of innovation within the team.
What We're Looking For
- Extensive Linux expertise (Linux device model - system level, userspace interaction with devices, boot sequence).
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Proven experience with Automotive products, preferably infotainment systems.
- Hands-on experience with embedded HW (Automotive SoCs, microcontrollers, serializers/deserializers, BT/WiFi chips, amplifiers, tuners, A2B chips).
- Ability to bring up domain-specific devices based on technical documentation.
- Knowledge of low-level concepts (e.g., kernel, BSP, communication protocols like I2C, SPI).
- Understanding of embedded hardware schematics and concepts.
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer programming under Linux and for Linux.
- Source control systems experience, preferably Git.
- Good English communication skills, both written and verbal.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge in the area of video-specific HW (serializers/deserializers) and video stack.
- Experience in building custom embedded Linux distributions (Yocto or similar).
- Good programming skills in scripting languages (Bash or similar).
- RUST enthusiast.
- Familiarity with Python-based web frameworks (Django or FastAPI).
- Embedded systems hardware architecture knowledge.
- Experience with Atlassian tools suite (JIRA, Confluence).
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other relevant (IT-related) specialisations.
