AEVEX is hiring an Electrical Engineer 3 to play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining electrical systems for Unmanned Systems (UAVs, UGVs, USVs). You will combine technical expertise with mentorship to lead larger projects involving vehicle avionics, power subsystems, RF communications, and computer vision.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and test electrical systems and equipment for military, industrial, commercial, and consumer unmanned systems.
- Design, test, and review new and existing PCB designs.
- Support flight test events, operations, demonstrations, and exercises as needed.
- Select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability, determining design approaches.
- Work with avionics, embedded systems (microcontrollers, FPGAs, Single Board Computers), and Radio Frequency (RF) links.
- Develop and maintain electrical control systems, including wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Analyze and interpret technical data (specifications, blueprints, schematics) to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
- Collaborate with teams of engineers, technicians, and clients to resolve technical issues and improve system performance.
- Plan and oversee the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical problems and provide technical support to production staff.
- Support customer-funded efforts and aid in their transition into production.
- Support rapid prototyping, system bring-up, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
- Implement quality control processes to ensure product reliability and performance.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
- 6+ years of electrical engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of common industry protocols (LVDS, I2C, HDMI, UART, SPI, CAN, USB, MIPI).
- Proficient in circuit design with knowledge of embedded microcontrollers, video image processing, battery technology, motor controllers, and power distribution.
- Strong ECAD skills applying knowledge of electrical design software for schematic capture and PCB layout (Altium (Preferred), Eagle PCB, Autodesk Fusion360, KICAD).
- Strong knowledge of electrical simulation tools such as LTspice.
- Strong knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) simulation tools such as ANSYS HFSS or CST Microwave Studio.
- Strong knowledge of MCAD with Autodesk Fusion360 and/or SolidWorks.
- Strong knowledge of embedded processors such as ARM, and embedded programming skills in C/C++.
- Familiarity with gas and battery-powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and associated avionics and electronics (IMUs, AHRS, BLDC motors).
- Excellent Test and Debug abilities with common lab equipment (DMMs, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Vector Network Analyzers, Logic Analyzers).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good leadership skills including managing a team through software such as Jira or Confluence.
- Ability to problem solve at a high level with little technical guidance from leadership.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a lab environment assembling and testing equipment.
- Ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret DoD clearance. U.S. Citizenship required.
Nice to Have
- Master's degree in an applicable electrical engineering or related field.
Technical Stack
- ECAD: Altium, Eagle PCB, Autodesk Fusion360, KICAD
- Simulation: LTspice, ANSYS HFSS, CST Microwave Studio
