About the Role
This position leads the development and execution of quality and food safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance, product excellence, and consumer trust. The role requires strategic oversight, cross-functional collaboration, and operational rigor to maintain the highest safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of comprehensive food safety and quality management systems
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory standards including FDA and USDA requirements
- Oversee internal audits and external certification processes such as SQF or BRCGS
- Develop and maintain quality control protocols across production and supply chain operations
- Lead root cause analyses and corrective actions for quality or safety deviations
- Collaborate with production teams to improve processes and reduce non-conformance rates
- Manage documentation and recordkeeping to support traceability and compliance
- Train and mentor quality assurance staff and plant personnel on food safety practices
- Monitor key performance indicators related to quality incidents and audit outcomes
- Serve as the primary liaison during regulatory inspections and third-party audits
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven methodologies
- Ensure raw materials and packaging meet established quality and safety specifications
- Oversee product testing protocols and laboratory operations
- Support new product development with quality and safety assessments
- Maintain current knowledge of emerging food safety regulations and industry trends
- Develop and enforce allergen control and sanitation procedures
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure adherence to quality standards
- Lead crisis management and product recall preparedness planning
- Promote a company-wide culture of food safety and quality ownership
- Report regularly to executive leadership on program performance and risks
- Manage budget and resource allocation for the quality department
- Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance monitoring and compliance
- Ensure consistency in quality standards across manufacturing sites
- Support sustainability goals through waste reduction and process efficiency
- Foster strong communication between departments to align on quality objectives
