Responsibilities
- Lead the creation, acquisition, and oversight of project-specific insurance programs covering property, casualty, liability, construction risk, environmental, nuclear, and specialty coverages
- Oversee relationships with insurance brokers, manage policy renewals, claims processing, and negotiations with insurers
- Formulate insurance strategies that respond to shifting project development and operational risk profiles
- Assess alternative risk financing mechanisms such as captives, risk retention groups, and innovative market solutions when applicable
- Develop and administer a comprehensive surety strategy, including bonding capacity, surety partnerships, collateral needs, indemnity obligations, and project-level bonding requirements
- Provide regular updates on insurance and surety programs to executive leadership and the Board of Directors
- Build and maintain structured project risk management frameworks and reporting systems
- Identify and evaluate risks across operations, strategy, finance, regulation, supply chain, and construction phases
- Create risk mitigation strategies using financial tools and coordinate with relevant departments as needed
- Support risk reporting for senior leadership, board review, and external disclosures as required
- Apply data analytics to inform strategic planning and risk-related decision-making
- Analyze contractual terms related to indemnity, liability, insurance requirements, and commercial risk allocation
- Negotiate and secure appropriate risk distribution among project stakeholders
- Provide risk and insurance expertise to support project development, financing, construction, and strategic alliances
- Collaborate with Legal, Finance, and Commercial teams to assess risk in major transactions and with key partners
- Manage external relationships with insurance and risk transfer providers, including brokers, underwriters, carriers, and specialty consultants
- Prepare and deliver clear documentation of nuclear-specific risk frameworks, governance practices, safety culture, and control measures for external stakeholders
- Coordinate with financial institutions, lenders, and surety providers to meet bonding, collateral, due diligence, and risk transfer needs
- Work with vendors, customers, and commercial partners to evaluate insurance requirements in third-party contracts, including indemnity terms, certificates, policy limits, exclusions, and compliance
- Collaborate with internal teams on nuclear liability planning, operational preparedness, emergency response, and business continuity
- Support compliance with evolving regulatory standards tied to the deployment of advanced reactor technologies
