Responsibilities
- Own the architecture, scalability, and performance of Skylo’s multi-cloud and private cloud estate across GCP, AWS, and on-prem / private cloud environments.
- Provide and continuously improve the platform services — compute, networking, storage, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and developer tooling — that engineering teams build and ship on.
- Drive infrastructure automation, standardization, and self-service through modern DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code practices (Terraform, Pulumi, etc.).
- Lead cloud networking and identity and access management (IAM) across the estate.
- Set the strategy and roadmap for the private / on-prem cloud footprint, including the infrastructure that supports Skylo’s cloud-native network functions.
- Implement best practices for high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity across all environments.
- Establish SRE practices, observability, and operational standards to meet the performance and uptime targets of a live, 24x7 commercial network and service.
- Own capacity planning and infrastructure readiness as the network and customer base scale across continents.
- Optimize cloud spend and drive FinOps initiatives for cost visibility, accountability, and governance across teams.
- Lead cloud vendor and contract management, balancing cost, performance, and risk.
- Partner with the Security function to embed cloud and data security, IAM, and SecOps into the platform, baking security into the infrastructure by default.
- Support compliance, audits, and customer security reviews for the cloud environment (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR).
- Oversee enterprise data engineering and data infrastructure that supports analytics and business needs.
- Build, grow, and lead a high-performing Cloud Infrastructure team across infrastructure engineering and DevOps / SRE.
- Partner with product, network, platform, and engineering leaders to embed reliability and security into software delivery.
- Mentor and develop engineers, set technical direction, and champion a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure / platform engineering, with at least 5 years in leadership.
- Proven expertise operating production environments in GCP and AWS, plus hands-on experience with private / on-prem or hybrid cloud infrastructure.
- Strong background in container orchestration (Kubernetes), Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi), CI/CD, cloud networking, and observability platforms.
- Deep understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, and large-scale, always-on systems.
- Solid grounding in cloud security best practices, IAM, zero-trust architectures, and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR).
- Track record of driving cloud cost optimization (FinOps) and vendor management.
- Experience building and leading infrastructure, DevOps, and/or SRE teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence at executive level.
