Responsibilities

  • Create and deploy logical and physical data models for new features, maintaining normalization, referential integrity, and long-term scalability
  • Write and evaluate stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and advanced SQL queries across relational databases including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar platforms
  • Work closely with software developers throughout the development lifecycle to align database structures with application functionality and performance goals
  • Set and uphold coding standards, naming conventions, and schema change protocols across development teams
  • Develop and manage version-controlled schema migration scripts integrated into CI/CD pipelines
  • Analyze and optimize slow-running queries, identify index gaps, and resolve locking or blocking issues in both development and production
  • Evaluate execution plans and apply query optimizations, indexing strategies, and statistics tuning to meet service level objectives
  • Establish performance benchmarks and monitor key database health indicators to detect and fix bottlenecks proactively
  • Support cloud-based database platforms such as Azure SQL, AWS RDS/Aurora, or comparable services, and assist in on-prem to cloud migration efforts
  • Integrate database changes into continuous integration and deployment workflows using tools like Flyway, Liquibase, or similar frameworks
  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code initiatives by writing database provisioning and configuration scripts using Terraform, Bicep, or CloudFormation
  • Collaborate with database administrators, data engineers, and architects to ensure database designs support enterprise-wide data strategies
  • Help build internal tools, documentation, and mentorship programs to strengthen organizational data engineering expertise
