Responsibilities
- Lead database reliability initiatives with a focus on high availability and disaster recovery, meeting strict RPO and RTO objectives for critical financial systems.
- Develop and implement scalable database architectures, including sharding, partitioning, and capacity planning strategies.
- Conduct in-depth query performance analysis, optimize execution plans, and resolve performance bottlenecks proactively.
- Design and maintain efficient database infrastructure, including connection pooling with PgBouncer and automated backup and restore systems.
- Build comprehensive monitoring solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, and VictoriaMetrics, and define clear service level indicators and objectives.
- Enforce stringent security standards, including secure credential handling and compliance with financial data regulations.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to guide schema design and database architecture decisions for high-traffic environments.
- Set technical standards and mentor team members through hands-on leadership and best practice implementation.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years as a PostgreSQL DBA in high-traffic, production environments, ideally in fintech or mission-critical systems.
- Advanced proficiency in PostgreSQL, including index types (B-tree, GIN, GiST, BRIN), partitioning, and vacuum configuration.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and managing high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including replication and clustering.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-hosted PostgreSQL services, particularly on GCP, and Linux system administration.
- Strong automation skills using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines with GitLab and ArgoCD.
- Expert-level SQL knowledge, including complex queries, stored procedures, and functions.
- Proven track record in implementing database monitoring and alerting with Prometheus and Grafana.
- Fluent English communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience working under compliance frameworks such as PCI DSS or GDPR.
- Familiarity with additional data technologies including Redis, BigQuery, Cassandra, or ClickHouse.
- Experience with advanced connection pooling tools beyond PgBouncer.
- Deep expertise in secure secrets and credential management.
