Responsibilities
- Lead major database migration initiatives resulting from acquisitions, client integrations, and platform expansion, ensuring minimal downtime, robust rollback plans, and complete data integrity.
- Develop and implement deployment strategies for blue/green releases, data archiving, and partitioning across various database types including relational, key-value, and document stores.
- Leverage AI-driven automation to enhance the data platform's operational excellence, security compliance, performance scalability, and resilience through capacity planning.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools and specification-driven workflows to accelerate database platform changes, including Terraform modules, runbooks, diagnostics, and operational tools, with defined acceptance criteria and superior code quality.
- Collaborate with the Data Insights team on lakehouse implementation, connecting transactional databases with analytics infrastructure via reliable access methods, security governance alignment, and secure workload integration.
- Advise engineers on selecting appropriate database solutions for relational systems like MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, key-value stores such as Redis, document databases like MongoDB, and search engines including Elasticsearch.
- Foster a documentation-rich culture by creating and disseminating high-quality knowledge materials for engineering teams and AI-assisted processes.
- Engage in incident management and on-call duties to uphold the health and reliability of data infrastructure.
Requirements
- Proficiency in AI-assisted development workflows, with practical experience using tools like Cursor or Claude to enhance efficiency, automation, and code standards.
- Minimum five years of hands-on experience managing MySQL and/or PostgreSQL in large-scale production settings, with in-depth knowledge of database internal mechanisms.
- At least two years of practical experience with NoSQL databases, specifically one of MongoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch.
- Two or more years of experience utilizing AWS cloud services.
- Expertise in Infrastructure as Code practices, particularly with Terraform as the primary tool.
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong communication skills for articulating complex technical concepts to colleagues and non-technical audiences.
- Experience operating within a distributed team environment.
Nice to Have
- Highly preferred familiarity with lakehouse and analytics infrastructure such as Databricks, Apache Iceberg, or Unity Catalog, along with a keen interest in partnering with Data Insights for lakehouse enablement.
