Responsibilities
- Create and sustain database systems to fulfill organizational data storage and retrieval requirements.
- Apply industry best practices for managing production databases, including monitoring and data removal processes.
- Conduct regular capacity planning to ensure databases can scale for future expansion.
- Install, set up, and update database software and associated applications.
- Monitor and enhance database performance to maintain high system availability and dependability.
- Assist in designing scalable data storage solutions using various data storage technologies.
- Develop best practices and decision frameworks for engineering teams to use during feature design.
- Ensure data growth and database architecture are aligned for peak performance.
- Establish and enforce database-level security protocols to protect against unauthorized access and breaches.
- Quickly diagnose and fix database-related problems to reduce disruptions.
- Optimize database performance through index and query improvements to boost efficiency and reduce latency.
- Actively participate in the database team, contributing to shared objectives, knowledge exchange, and peer reviews of changes.
- Work with development teams to design and implement database solutions for new applications.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to integrate databases with other applications and services.
- Produce and maintain detailed documentation on database architectures, configurations, and procedures.
- Offer training and assistance to team members as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience as a database administrator managing relational database systems.
- Thorough knowledge of database management systems such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server.
- Experience with cloud-based database solutions like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Strong grasp of database security, backup, and recovery processes.
- Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages for automation tasks.
- Understanding of data warehousing and business intelligence principles.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities.
- Capability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Nice to Have
- Experience managing PostgreSQL at scale with 10 or more databases in a production environment is advantageous.
- Experience managing databases in a data center setting is beneficial.
- Certification in database administration is preferred.
