About the Role
This role involves using advanced tracking and pose data to build decision-making tools for top-tier hockey and basketball organizations, with daily responsibilities centered on modeling, data transformation, and client-driven analysis.
Responsibilities
- Transform raw data inputs into structured tables and features that support scalable development by internal teams and clients
- Design, expand, and verify predictive models such as event likelihood and athleticism assessments, ensuring compatibility with evolving data needs
- Create analytical outputs and performance metrics used by professional sports clients to inform strategic decisions, including direct data investigation to address client inquiries
- Identify and integrate meaningful signals from complex spatiotemporal tracking and skeletal pose datasets into updated model frameworks
- Conduct thorough validation of modeling outputs, both self-developed and peer-created, to ensure reliability before deployment
- Produce well-documented technical reports that effectively convey data science work to non-technical stakeholders across the organization
The Role
Both positions focus on leveraging proprietary tracking and pose data to generate actionable metrics, models, and analyses used by elite sports teams. Daily tasks are consistent across domains and include transforming data, building models, extracting features, validating outputs, supporting clients, and communicating results clearly.

- Strong grasp of data science fundamentals including model behavior and data dependencies
- Proficiency in Python or R, statistical reasoning, and SQL for structured data workflows
- Precision in data structuring with consideration for edge cases and downstream use
- Team-oriented attitude critical in small, collaborative environments
- Hockey applicants benefit from direct hockey analytics experience or familiarity with pose/skeleton data
- Basketball applicants preferred with NBA front office experience, deep learning knowledge, or public analytics work demonstrating game insight
Why This Role
- Hockey and basketball analytics are advancing rapidly, and these teams are leading the innovation by partnering directly with NHL and NBA organizations on high-impact decisions using exclusive data sources
