Juniper Square, a mission-driven company unlocking the full potential of private markets, is seeking a Data Engineering Architect to lead a foundational transformation. In this role, you will evolve our data engineering and analytics function from a project-based delivery model into a modern, scalable, product-oriented Data Platform organization. You'll define the vision, architecture, operating model, and execution roadmap to enable reliable, governed, and analytics-ready data across the company.
What You'll Do
- Define and own the end-to-end data and analytics architecture strategy.
- Design scalable batch, streaming, and real-time data systems and a platform for structured and unstructured data.
- Establish standards for data modeling, semantic layers, reporting, governance, lineage, cataloging, and metadata.
- Lead architecture reviews, technical decision-making, and drive adoption of modern architectures (lakehouse, data mesh, real-time analytics).
- Design and prototype critical data platform components, writing production-quality code for complex or high-impact areas.
- Design a 'Data for Agents' strategy for LLM-readable semantic layers and build AI-ready infrastructure, including vector stores, embedding pipelines, and RAG-ready architecture.
- Create curated data products and reusable APIs for applications, analytics, and AI agents, enabling self-service data access.
- Partner with AI, product, and engineering teams to support training datasets, feature stores, AI inference pipelines, and build agentic ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Ensure the reliability, scalability, and resilience of the platform, troubleshooting performance issues and optimizing workloads for latency, concurrency, and cost.
- Partner with product, finance, business operations, and leadership to define analytics needs, designing scalable data models and driving a data-driven culture.
- Establish data quality frameworks, validation processes, privacy/compliance standards, and role-based access controls.
- Mentor senior engineers, analytics engineers, and data scientists, and act as the executive technical authority for data and analytics.
- Define SLAs/SLOs, establish monitoring and alerting processes, optimize cloud costs, and support capacity planning.
- Evangelize pragmatic AI adoption and help establish a culture of outcome-driven innovation.
What We're Looking For
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data platform roles, with proven experience architecting large-scale data and analytics systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with modern data stacks in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Deep expertise in data modeling for analytics (dimensional, star/snowflake, Data Vault) and advanced expertise in semantic layers (e.g., dbt, Cube).
- Advanced SQL skills and proficiency in Python, Scala, or Java.
- Experience with distributed processing frameworks like Spark or Flink.
- Experience building reporting and BI solutions at scale with tools like Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Strong understanding of both batch and real-time architectures, data governance, and security best practices.
- Ability to operate at both executive and deeply technical levels.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting AI/ML pipelines and feature engineering.
- Familiarity with real-time analytics and event-driven architectures.
- Experience implementing semantic layers or metrics stores.
