Responsibilities
- Handle level-one legal tasks such as negotiating business associate agreements, nondisclosure agreements, vendor contracts, and other standard commercial documents.
- Manage the legal operations ecosystem, including intake tools like Ironclad or Freshservice, workflow automation, and document management.
- Create and maintain a dashboard of key performance indicators and service level agreements to provide the General Counsel with real-time visibility into team productivity, cycle times, and pending matters.
- Develop and improve the legal request intake process to ensure clear routing, prioritization, and accountability for service levels across the organization.
- Act as the main contact for conflict checks and outside counsel management, ensuring clear communication among all parties.
- Transition information from various sources into selected records management systems to keep documents organized, version-controlled, and ready for audits.
- Collaborate with Finance, Sales, and the Salesforce administrator to support contracting workflows and commercial deal cycles.
- Promote the adoption of artificial intelligence within the Legal function by identifying opportunities for AI tools in contract review, research, drafting, and operations, and supporting implementation with the broader company AI initiative.
- Assist the General Counsel with ad hoc legal matters, research, and projects as the team and company grow.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in a state bar.
- At least five years of legal experience, ideally in healthcare, health technology, or another highly regulated industry.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong project development and management skills with a focus on efficiency.
- Working knowledge of healthcare regulations including HIPAA, business associate agreements, and data use or data privacy requirements.
- Experience with or strong interest in legal operations tools such as intake systems, matter management, workflow automation, and reporting.
- Ability to manage work from start to finish without needing reminders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly explain legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Comfort working in a lean, fast-paced environment where processes are still being developed.
- Servant leader mindset with a problem-solving and collaborative approach.
- Comfortable with a brisk organizational pace and high volume of work.
