The Commissioning Engineer III leads the commissioning, validation, and integration of sophisticated automation and software systems in the Airport Division. This role ensures smooth deployment from engineering to operations by applying technical expertise and fostering collaboration across teams. The position is based in Greenwood Village, CO, and reports to the office there.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate system requirements, features, and acceptance criteria to confirm readiness for commissioning and operational use.
- Offer technical expertise to align requirements with operational capabilities and commissioning goals.
- Develop and contribute to commissioning plans, setting objectives, timelines, and dependencies in line with project milestones.
- Provide technical leadership during commissioning preparation and coordinate efforts across engineering, software, and operations groups.
- Configure and validate IT systems and PLC environments, including hardware, software, and network elements, in coordination with IT and engineering teams.
- Ensure systems are tuned for optimal commissioning and operational deployment.
- Create, refine, and execute commissioning procedures and validation protocols.
- Maintain traceability to functional and operational targets while adhering to engineering and quality standards.
- Prepare and manage configuration data, operational settings, and input datasets needed for commissioning and system validation.
- Ensure data accuracy and consistency across all system environments.
- Develop detailed schedules for commissioning activities.
- Lead and carry out commissioning tasks on-site and remotely.
- Assess system performance and document any deviations or issues in both software and automation components.
- Deliver technical troubleshooting and resolution for complex commissioning problems.
- Review commissioning processes and results with developers, automation engineers, and stakeholders to ensure alignment, quality, and operational readiness.
- Serve as the primary technical contact during commissioning phases.
- Engage throughout the full software and automation lifecycle, from development and integration to commissioning and handover to operations.
- Facilitate a seamless transition from engineering to operational deployment.
- Support quality improvement by identifying issues arising during commissioning.
- Participate in corrective and preventive actions to address system deficiencies.
- Help define best practices and capture lessons learned across projects.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
- Support team skill development and promote standardized commissioning practices.
- Stay informed about advancements in technology, industry standards, and best practices in software commissioning and automation.
- Contribute to evolving and improving commissioning methodologies within the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in automation engineering, system commissioning, or similar roles, with proven involvement in complex automation systems and large-scale projects.
- Proven experience leading commissioning efforts, coordinating with cross-functional engineering teams, and supporting system deployment in live environments.
- Valid Driver's License with the ability to meet insurance underwriting criteria.
- Ability to obtain the required airside security badge issued by the Airport or TSA.
- Willingness and ability to travel 50-75% of the time based on business demands.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in team leadership, technical mentorship, or project coordination is beneficial.
- Experience working with cross-cultural or international teams is preferred.
- Certifications in Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming and development are preferred.
- Certifications in IT Engineering or related technical fields are advantageous.

$128,000.00 - $138,000.00 Annually. Performance-Based Bonus through Target Agreement Plan
