Responsibilities
- Shape commercial strategy, not just report on it
- Lead contract negotiations, risk positions and dispute resolution
- Manage revenue, cashflow and profit plans (and challenge them when needed)
- Build, develop and mentor a high-performing commercial team
- Work shoulder-to-shoulder with Operations, Engineering, Planning and Finance
- Own the commercial health of your Business Unit — forecasts, actuals, governance and reporting
- Lead tender evaluations, gap analysis and contract negotiations
- Interpret contracts, identifying risk, and turning issues into managed outcomes
- Ensure the right commercial structures, systems and people are in place
- Audit live projects and improve commercial performance where it counts
- Manage subcontract terms, payments and compliance (before site starts, ideally)
- Close final accounts properly — including retention release (yes, actually on time)
- Strengthen commercial awareness across the wider business
- Feed lessons learned back into estimating and pre-construction
- Support continuous improvement and lean commercial processes
