Halter is hiring a Cloud Security Operations Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Secure and continuously enhance the AWS environment, covering both managed and self-managed services.
  • Deploy, configure, and operate security tools on cloud infrastructure, including EC2 instances, to improve hardening and visibility.
  • Write and maintain Terraform and Infrastructure as Code to safely and repeatably implement security controls and configuration changes.
  • Investigate security events and incidents by assessing severity and blast radius, driving mitigations, and incorporating lessons into prevention.
  • Enhance incident response readiness through playbooks, alert quality, response workflows, and automations to reduce detection and containment times.
  • Evaluate and deploy new security capabilities such as SIEM, SOAR, EDR improvements, and logging or telemetry, managing the process from fit assessment to production stability.
  • Build security platform foundations that teams can easily adopt, enabling developers rather than shifting issues to them.
  • Participate in a security on-call rotation, with details still evolving and likely similar to the Platform team's approach.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with AWS and securing production cloud environments, including a strong grasp of AWS resource types and architecture.
  • Solid background in security operations and incident response, including investigation and triage, ideally with EDR and SIEM tools.
  • Ability to convert noisy signals into high-confidence detections and improve monitoring and detection over time.
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code mindset, ideally with Terraform, and the ability to confidently read and modify Terraform safely.
  • Thrives in ambiguous and fast-changing environments, identifying high-leverage problems and making progress without complete runbooks.
  • Pragmatic security approach that reduces risk meaningfully while maintaining developer velocity and operational effectiveness.
  • Calm and accountable, not panicking, owning outcomes, and learning quickly.
  • Comfortable using AI as a tool, with a thoughtful and critical perspective rather than hype-driven.
  • Motivated by the company's mission, wanting work to matter even when behind the scenes.

Benefits

  • Work that genuinely matters, helping farmers improve livelihoods, spend more time with families, and build sustainable operations.
  • Spectacular people solving hard problems, with a diverse, kind, and driven team.
  • Autonomy, mastery, and learning, with freedom to work on interesting problems and master new skills.
  • $1,000 personal growth fund.
  • Office-first culture with high energy and in-person connections.

Our Office First Approach

There is a reason you visit friends in person, live with family, and do not have dinners over Zoom. Humans are wired for connection. A world-class, in-person office culture is the best way for high-performing teams. Being office first is a core pillar of the culture. In-person connections are key to driving growth, learning, impact, and building genuine long-lasting relationships. Strong relationships make it easier to disagree, give feedback, and do meaningful and aligned work. There are not many rules or policies, so strong, trusted relationships are critical. The approach is office first, not office only, meaning working from the office every day is the default, but flexibility is provided when needed. There is a high-trust culture, so everyone is trusted to do what is best for the company. The office vibe is special and hard to describe until experienced, but people who have come from fully remote or hybrid companies say they could never go back due to the high energy and spectacular people. Growth, learning, and impact are unlimited, largely from being together solving problems, innovating, building context, and constantly learning from each other.

Why our team loves working at Halter

Work that genuinely matters. Every now and again a company comes along that transforms an entire industry and leaves the world in a better place. The team gets to be part of something truly meaningful, helping farmers improve their livelihoods, spend more time with their families, and build more sustainable operations. Spectacular people solving hard problems. The culture is designed for talented people to do work that changes lives. The team is filled with diverse, kind, and driven people who push each other to do their best work. You will be thrown into the deep end, tackling complex challenges and building something tangible that solves real problems. You will grow here. Autonomy, mastery, and learning define how we work. You will have the freedom to work on interesting problems, master new skills, and continuously develop yourself, both through your role and the $1,000 personal growth fund. This is not easy, and that is appreciated. Working here will be the most rewarding and the most challenging work of your life. The company moves fast, takes bold bets, and works hard to reshape an entire industry. As one team member put it: 'Joining is a bit like strapping yourself to a rocket ship, but it is an epic journey to be a part of!'
