Eskenazi Health is hiring an Advanced Practice Provider, Burn

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the care of surgical burn patients in both ICU and outpatient environments.
  • Acts as a primary care provider for admitted burn ICU patients with indirect oversight from a supervising physician.
  • Manages critical care and step-down unit admissions under the indirect supervision of the on-call physician.
  • Delivers continuous inpatient and outpatient coverage for burn surgery services.
  • Provides backup care for plastic surgery patients as assigned by the supervising physician.
  • Orders and evaluates standard and specialized diagnostic tests, including lab work, imaging, and EKGs.
  • Prescribes medications in accordance with established clinical guidelines.
  • Documents patient admissions, including history, physical exams, progress notes, and physician orders, with co-signature within 24 hours.
  • Answers service requests when attending physicians are occupied in surgery.
  • Participates in required Burn Center committees and maintains active membership.
  • Engages in performance improvement initiatives, including daily and weekly rounds, conferences, journal clubs, and case reviews.
  • Drafts correspondence to physicians, government entities, and care providers to support patient care coordination and long-term planning.
  • Supports institutional readiness for JCAHO and American Burn Association certification processes.
  • Communicates with patients and families to secure preoperative consents and exchange essential medical information.
  • Collaborates with healthcare professionals to coordinate surgical plans and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Monitors patient care delivery to ensure adherence to protocols and standards.
  • Provides non-emergent or in-hospital on-call support as directed by the burn medical director.
  • Secures prescriptive authority in compliance with state regulations after completing required practice hours and maintains ongoing continuing medical education.
  • Orders and interprets pre- and post-surgical lab and imaging studies, initiating appropriate treatments based on findings.
