As an intern in kernel development, you'll focus on crafting and refining low-level software components that power machine learning and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads. Your work will center on building and tuning compute kernels, particularly those involving tensor operations, to maximize efficiency and speed.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and maintain kernel-level code for tensor computation and data movement.
- Optimize performance-critical routines using C/C++ and Python, with a focus on algorithmic efficiency and hardware utilization.
- Profile system performance to detect bottlenecks and apply targeted improvements to low-level code paths.
- Collaborate with machine learning engineers to integrate optimized kernels into broader AI frameworks and data pipelines.
- Develop testing infrastructure and write unit tests to ensure code reliability and correctness.
- Document code, APIs, and development practices to support team-wide knowledge sharing.
- Stay current with advancements in kernel programming, parallel computing, and machine learning to inform technical decisions.
What We're Looking For
You're currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field. You bring strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python, with hands-on experience in algorithm optimization and debugging. Familiarity with parallel computing concepts and tools for performance analysis is essential. Prior exposure to machine learning frameworks is beneficial. You're analytical, self-driven, and thrive in collaborative technical environments.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS is a bonus. You must be eligible to work under U.S. export regulations, which may require specific residency or citizenship status.
Work Environment
This hybrid role is based in Toronto, Ontario, combining in-person collaboration with flexible remote work. The team values curiosity, teamwork, and a relentless focus on tackling technically demanding challenges.
Compensation & Culture
We offer a highly competitive salary and operate as an equal opportunity employer. Our culture is built on collaboration, deep technical inquiry, and a shared drive to solve complex problems in computing and AI.
