About United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is the regional arm of the United Nations Secretariat for the Asia-Pacific region. It was established in 1947 to encourage economic and social development in the region. ESCAP's work spans across a wide range of areas, including macroeconomic policy, trade and investment, transport, environment and development, information and communications technology, disaster risk reduction, social development, and statistics. The commission aims to promote cooperation and integration among its member states, fostering sustainable development and inclusive growth.

ESCAP's mandate is to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The commission works closely with governments, civil society, and other stakeholders to achieve these goals. It provides technical assistance, capacity development, and policy advice to help countries in the region address their development challenges and opportunities.

The commission is also involved in disaster risk reduction and management, promoting sustainable urban development, and enhancing regional connectivity. ESCAP's work is guided by the principles of inclusiveness, sustainability, and resilience, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of development.
