The Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) initiative is a UN Partnership Programme organized by UNCTAD, the UN Global Compact, UNEP FI, and the PRI. It serves as a global platform for exploring how stock exchanges, in collaboration with investors, regulators, and companies, can enhance corporate transparency and performance on environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) issues.
The SSE aims to promote responsible investment and support the financing of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It achieves this through evidence-based policy analysis, multi-stakeholder dialogue, technical assistance, and advisory services to capital market stakeholders worldwide.
The initiative tracks and reports its impact annually, working closely with partner exchanges, regulators, and investors to advance sustainable market practices. It also offers capacity-building programs, including the SSE Academy, and maintains public databases on ESG disclosure, gender equality, climate action, and more.
