The Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) is an autonomous intergovernmental financial institution established within the framework of the United Nations. The Agreement Establishing the Common Fund for Commodities was negotiated in the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) from 1976 to 1980 and became effective in 1989. The first commodity development project was approved in 1991.
CFC supports the development of commodity-dependent developing countries through financing and technical assistance. It focuses on improving the competitiveness, sustainability, and inclusiveness of agricultural commodity value chains, particularly for smallholder farmers and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The organization works to address market volatility, strengthen resilience in commodity sectors, and promote sustainable development goals such as poverty reduction, food security, gender equality, and climate action through targeted investment and impact-driven projects.
