About Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission

The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) is the national regulator of charities. The ACNC was established in December 2012 to maintain, protect and enhance public trust and confidence in the Australian not-for-profit sector.

It supports and sustains a robust, vibrant, independent and innovative not-for-profit sector, while promoting the reduction of unnecessary regulatory obligations on the sector. The ACNC registers organisations as charities and helps them understand and meet their obligations through guidance, advice and support.

The ACNC also maintains a free and searchable public register of charities, enabling the public to access information about registered charities. It works with government agencies to streamline reporting requirements and improve transparency and accountability across the sector.
